Each point is a satellite detection, not a separate fire: one fire produces several per pass. The timeline shows the fire's chronological evolution from its first signal, each step showing what had burned up to that point.

The burned areas are the one-kilometre squares where a sensor saw fire at least once. This is a broad estimate: a single hotspot marks the whole square, so the area overflows what actually burned, and it can equally be full of holes where the satellite saw nothing at the time of its pass. On this fire it covers 2 km². The measured areas, in hectares, come from EFFIS and BDIFF, on the impacts page.

This cluster is not a declared fire

These hotspots were grouped because they are close in space and in time. Nobody has confirmed on the ground that it is a single fire: two neighbouring fires can be merged into one, and a fire cut by an unobserved area can be split in two. The reference remains your prefecture, the fire service and FR-Alert.
