Why the figure moves without its date changing
The burned area carries two dates, and they do not say the same thing.
The period covered stops at the record date. It only moves forward once a week, on Wednesdays: EFFIS publishes a single weekly value.
The value moves every day. EFFIS fills in its past weeks as the satellite imagery is processed. The week ending 22 July 2026 was worth 57,966 hectares on the 25th, then 86,514, then 85,772, then 86,210 on the 30th. Same period, four values.
The rest of the site follows each source's own pace: hotspots arrive every hour, the Météo des forêts every evening. The table above gives the detail, line by line.
Days with no detection at all in 2026
These dates have no detection anywhere in France. In winter that is normal: the country goes whole days without a single fire. A run of several empty days in the middle of the season, on the other hand, would signal an import problem, and the home page would say so.

A failure does not make the data disappear: the site keeps serving the last known state, and shows it as such.
